How to: Onboard Stripe

Instructions for connecting Dive 365 and Stripe (Merchant Account)

Use the instructions below to connect your Organization in Dive 365 to a Stripearrow-up-right account, thereby establishing your Merchant Account in Dive 365. This connection is required to facilitate payment from your customers (Accounts).

Sign into the Registration service

Navigate to the Registration service (linkarrow-up-right)

Begin connection process

Click on the "Open Merchant Account Dashboard" button

I do not have an existing Stripe account

Follow these instructions if you do NOT have an existing Stripe account. Otherwise, skip to the next section.

Provide Organization email

Enter your Organization's email address.

It is recommended that this email address be associated with your Organization rather than a specific person. This allows for transfer of the Stripe account to others in the future.

Provide a password or connect via a provider

If you are using an email provider like Google, it is recommended that you connect to Stripe using the “Sign in with Google” (or equivalent) button and follow the prompts. This will allow you to connect with Stripe without having to enter a new/different password. If you are not using a provider, enter a password.

Configure 2FA

You will be required to set up 2-factor authentication (2FA). You can use most authenticator apps (e.g. Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, etc.). Open the authenticator app and scan the QR core to add Stripe to your list of services. Once you have added the service, click the "next" button.

Verify your login

You will be prompted to enter the code from the authenticator app. Enter the code.

Download/store emergency backup code

After your code is verified, you will be shown an emergency backup code. If you lose your sign in credentials or your authenticator app gets disconnected, you will be able to re-connect with your Stripe account using the emergency backup code. It is recommended that you download the code and place it in a secure location (e.g. Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.). After you have downloaded the code, click “next”.

Provide details about your Organization

Follow the prompts to provide details about your Organization. For example:

  • Business location

  • Business type - Likely “non-profit”

  • Legal business name

  • (Optional) Registration number (if incorporated)

  • Business address

  • Business phone number

  • Industry - Likely “Membership organizations > Other membership organizations”

  • Business website

  • Product description - Your Organization's tagline

  • Your personal information as you will be the primary Organization contact

If you are a director or board member, check the “I’m a director of the company or member of the governing board”. In the corresponding “Are you the only person on the governing board of the company, select “yes” or “no” depending on your situation (likely “no”). Add additional directors if you selected “no”

Provide bank account information

Enter your bank account information and select your payout schedule. You can choose to be paid out from Stripe manually (you click a button to transfer money from Stripe to your bank account) or automatically on a schedule that works for your Organization.

Optionally configure invoice details

You can optionally set details for how customer’s will see information regarding your Organization on invoices. Dive 365 will be the host for invoices, so this will not be necessary for Dive 365 itself, but can be a good practice if you intend to use Stripe for other activities (e.g. 50/50, etc.).

Optionally configure extra fees

Stripe may ask for your preferences regarding extra fees. Answer these questions to match your Organization’s requirements.

Review and submit

On the “Review and Submit” screen, CAREFULLY REVIEW all provided information and adjust as required. Click “Agree and submit” when ready. You will then be redirected back to Dive 365.

Contact Dive 365 at info[at]dive365[dot]ca to inform them that you have completed onboarding process.

I have an existing Stripe account

Follow these instructions if you DO have an existing Stripe account. Otherwise, return to the previous section.

Sign into Stripe

Provide the credentials for your existing Stripe account. After sign in, you will be automatically redirected back to Dive 365.

Contact Dive 365 at info[at]dive365[dot]ca to inform them that you have completed onboarding process.

Post-Connection details

After your Stripe account is created and connected to Dive 365, some additional details may be required by Stripe to verify your Organization and/or your identity. Furthermore, this verification may be required to facilitate payment.

Sign into the Stripe dashboard

Navigate to the Stripe dashboardarrow-up-right and sign in.

If your account is new, you will see a "payouts paused while we review your information" notification at the top of the page. Likewise, if your account requires additional information from you, a similar notification will appear at the top of the page. Click the button in the notification.

Provide proof of directors

If your Organization has directors, you will be required to give proof of directors before payouts can occur. Click the “start” button in this notification to start that process. Then follow the instructions.

Verify business details

Navigate to the "Business > Account details" page (linkarrow-up-right) and verify your phone number.

Optionally configure branding

Navigate to the "Business > Branding" page (linkarrow-up-right) and optionally configure your Organization's branding.

Dive 365 manages invoices, checkout sessions, and receipts, meaning your Organization should not be directly visible to customers. However, if you intend to use Stripe for other means (e.g. 50/50), then update your branding colors, logos, and text as desired.
