Registration Categories
What are Registration Categories?
Registration Categories allow Organizations to classify Members to meet reporting, regulatory compliance, and (most notably) insurance requirements. For example, competitive athletes may require additional insurance or travel documentation. Registration Categories are how this is accomplished. Members may have many associated Registration Categories.
How do Registration Categories work?
Organizations define Registration Categories as appropriate for their needs, and athletic Members are automatically assigned as part of their registration process. Non-athletes may add Registration Categories from the Store for the current and upcoming Seasons.
Registration Categories also include Agreements that Members are required to agree to at time of purchase.
Visualization
As Members are assigned Registration Categories for the current Season, you can use the Registration Category administration page to visualize the assignments. By clicking on the "chart" button in the toolbar of the Registration Category administration page, you can reveal a chart that will display the number of registrations by type and individual Registration Category. For Organizations with child Organizations, the chart will continue to break down to show registration counts for each child Organization.

Hierarchy structure
All Registration Categories are created with a parent Registration Category from your parent Organization. This facilitates your ability to create your own Registration Categories while satisfying the Registration Category requirements of your parent Organization. This also ensures that each Organization is able to charge their own specific fee when a Member is assigned a Registration Category.
[Dive 365] Athlete
[Diving Plongeon Canada] Athlete
[BC Diving] Athlete
[Boardworks Diving Academy] Rising Stars
For example, the national Organization may have a Registration Category for all athletes and charge a small fee. A provincial Organization will then create their own Registration Category for athletes as a child of that category and charge their own fee. Then a club will create the own Registration Category (or categories) for athletes as a child of the provincial category and charge their own fees.
A Member is assigned Registration Categories by Season. Each Season, Members must register and pay for the appropriate Registration Categories. Once a Registration Category is purchased, it is valid for the remainder of the Season and will not need to be purchased again.
Sessions are also assigned a Registration Category when configured. This ensures that Members are required to be assigned the specific Registration Category when they purchase the Session. A Member will not be allowed to purchase a Session unless they also purchase the Registration Category.
Types
Registration Categories are broken down into distinct types. This facilitates natural grouping of Registration Categories and allows for the Dive 365 service to behave differently for Members that have been assigned specific types (e.g. coach vs athlete). As of this writing, available types are:
Athlete
Coach
Official
Staff
Volunteer
Pricing
Pricing for a Registration Category is a sum of each level of the hierarchy. Consider the following example:
[Dive 365] Athlete
$0.00
[Diving Plongeon Canada] Athlete
$10.00
[BC Diving] Athlete
$5.00
[Boardworks Diving Academy] Rising Stars
$2.50
In the example above, the club's Registration Category ("Rising Stars") is a child of the provincial Organization's Registration Category ("Athlete") which is a child of the national Organization's Registration Category ("Athlete"). In this case, the Member would be required to pay the sum of each price: $17.50.
Taxes
When configuring a Registration Category, you may indicate whether the price is taxable. This signals whether taxes will be added at time of purchase.
Taxes are calculated by the 3rd party payment service (Stripe) based on the Member's location. For example, assuming the purchasing Member is located in BC, an HST rate of 12% (as of this writing) would be applied to each line item based on their taxable settings. Consider the example below:
[Dive 365] Athlete
$0.00
(exempt)
[Diving Plongeon Canada] Athlete
$10.00
$1.20
[BC Diving] Athlete
$5.00
$0.60
[Boardworks Diving Academy] Rising Stars
$2.50
$0.30
Subtotal
$17.50
$2.10
Harmonized transaction fee
$0.96
(exempt)
Total
$20.56
In the above example, the all Organizations have listed their Registration Categories as taxable. As a result, taxes are added to the purchase total for the each Registration Category.
When transfers are made from Dive 365 to the Organizations involved in the purchase, collected taxes for each line item will also be transferred. In the example above, the club Organization would receive $2.50 plus thein tax of $0.30. Likewise, each Organization would receive their appropriate amounts.
Unless required, remaining examples herein will not include tax.
Purchasing multiple Registration Categories
Members may be assigned to multiple Registration Categories. Members will pay for each Registration Category. In the event that a Member purchases multiple Registration Categories (within the same Season), the Member will only be required to pay the highest price. Consider the following example:
[Dive 365] Athlete
$0.00
[Diving Plongeon Canada] Athlete
$10.00
[BC Diving] Athlete
$5.00
[Boardworks Diving Academy] Competitive Introduction
$5.00
[Boardworks Diving Academy] Rising Stars
$2.50
Maximum price
$20.00
In the example above, the club's Registration Categories ("Competitive Intro" and "Rising Stars") are children of the provincial Organization's Registration Category ("Athlete") which is a child of the national Organization's Registration Category ("Athlete"). In the event that a Member is assigned the "Rising Stars" Registration Category, they will be required to pay $17.50 (the sum of the Registration Category hierarchy). If the Member is later assigned the "Competitive Intro" Registration Category within the same Season, the Member will only be required to pay the difference of $2.50 to the Organization. Meaning the Member will only need to pay the maximum possible price for the Registration Categories they've been assigned in a Season. This is also true across Registration Category types. Consider the following example:
[Dive 365] Athlete
$0.00
[Diving Plongeon Canada] Athlete
$10.00
[BC Diving] Athlete
$5.00
[Boardworks Diving Academy] Rising Stars
$2.50
[Dive 365] Coach
$0.00
[Diving Plongeon Canada] Coach
$10.00
[BC Diving] Coach
$5.00
[Boardworks Diving Academy] N/A
N/A
Maximum pricing
$17.50
In the example above, we assume that a Member has been assigned the club's athlete Registration Category ("Rising Stars") as well as the provincial Organization's coach Registration Category ("Coach"). The total cost for the provincial coach Registration Category is $10.00 while the total cost of the club's athlete Registration Category is $17.50 in total. The maximum value of the two is $17.50 and therefore what is charged for the Season. In this same example, we can see that the national Organization has a different fee for the two Registration Categories. Each Organization will be paid the maximum amount owing per Season. In other words, the national Organization will be paid $10.00, the provincial Organization $5.00 and the club $2.50 for the Season.
Refunds/Cancellations
Registration Categories cannot be refunded or cancelled.
Fees
Fees associated with Registration Categories can be broken into two types; Dive 365 transaction fees, and 3rd party payment service fees. When a Registration Category purchase is made, the fees are charged to the Account as one harmonized fee. Consider the example below:
[Dive 365] Athlete
$0.00
(exempt)
[Diving Plongeon Canada] Athlete
$10.00
$1.20
[BC Diving] Athlete
$5.00
$0.60
[Boardworks Diving Academy] Rising Stars
$2.50
$0.30
Subtotal
$17.50
$2.10
Harmonized transaction fee
$0.96
(exempt)
Total
$20.56
The harmonized transaction Fee (example $0.96) is applied at time of purchase as its own line item. Taxes are applied to each line item (excluding the Fee itself) according to the configuration applied by each Organization. After taxes, the Member pays $20.56 in total. This means that the harmonized transaction Fee is paid entirely by the Account.
After the Account pays for the Registration Categories, value of each purchased Registration Category, including taxes collected, is transferred to each Organization. The payments are tracked as purchase line items and transactions. This includes taxes paid. For example, in this case, Boardworks Diving Academy would have a tracked purchase line item with $2.80 in total and $0.30 in taxes collected.
